Few New York City first-graders remain with original class
Only one-third of New York City students who started first grade in the 1995-96 school year reached eighth grade in the expected time, according to New York University research. Also, fewer than 60% of these regular first-grade students remained in New York City public schools by the time they reached eighth grade, researchers found.
